Reading the Forested Landscape - Countryman Press 2005

CONSERVATION CONNECTIONS IS BACK!! - SOLD OUT

ENJOY A COMMUNITY EVENT AND LEARN TO READ THE FORESTED LANDSCAPE!

The Sherborn Forest & Trail Association (SFTA) is bringing back a time‐honored Sherborn tradition – Conservation Connections: A Conscientious Cocktail Party. (SOLD OUT - NO NEW TICKETS ARE AVAILBE FOR US TO SELL AT THE DOOR.  IF YOU DID NOT ALREADY SIGN UP< YOU WILL HAVE TO JOIN US NEXT TIME)

On Friday, February 6th at 6:30 PM SFTA will bring together music, hearty hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar, a raffle of locally made products and a fascinating guest speaker, Tom Wessels. Take a break from the wearisome winter weather, socialize with friends and neighbors, and learn how every forest has a story.

SFTA, with the support of the Sherborn Business Association, is joined in this event by many like-minded local and regional organizations that will have available information about their programs, varied outdoor activities, and about Sherborn’s accessible open space properties.

Tom Wessels is Professor Emeritus from Antioch University New England where he has been teaching students his methods of reading the landscape for thirty years.  Much like a woodland Sherlock Holmes, he will demonstrate that once you know what to look for as you wander in the forest, you’ll be able to piece together the complex history that shaped the land.

Tom will present slides during his talk after which there will be time for questions from the audience. He is the author of several books, including: Reading the Forested Landscape, The Granite Landscape, Untamed Vermont, The Myth of Progress and Forest Forensics: A Field Guide to Reading the Forested Landscape. His books will be available for sale during the event.

Conservation Connections SOLD OUT will be held at the Sherborn Community Center, 2 Sanger Street. This event is open to the public. Admission is longer available for purchase.  We have had advance registration by over 150 people - and have been requeseted by the building inspector, fire & police to close registration at this point.  Thank you everyone for signing up early. We are very excited to see so many at the party.

The party will be catered by Zaftig's and feature awesome hearty hors d'oeuvres.  There will be a raffle featuring some really nice items including:

  • Bully Boy liquor assortment
  • Caymus bottle of Wine ($100 value)
  • Farm share CSA membership, Dowse Orchards
  • One week stay at a Wyoming ranch
  • English riding lesson
  • Brunch for 6 at Zaftig’s !
  • Locally-raised pork meat selection all packaged up and ready to go
  • Urn with 4 seasonal flower arrangements
  • a very nice Swing Set for the little kids to start their outdoor explorations on
  • GoreTex socks from Landry's Bicycle shop for your winter hiking and riding
  • Gift Certificate to Kierce and Company for a good hair cut/styling/color/...

You can let us know if you want to buy some raffle tickets for a particular item even if you can not make the event.
